Program Goals and the Curriculum

BHCP uses The Creative Curriculum as the organizing framework underlying our approach to working with young children:

Social/Emotional Development: Developing a sense of self and taking responsibility for own well-being; demonstrating self-direction and independence; sharing and respecting the rights of others; using thinking skills to resolve conflict.

Cognitive Development: Learning and problem-solving by observing with curiosity; approaching problems using multiple strategies; exploring cause and effect; demonstrating logical thinking as well as representative/symbolic thinking.

Physical Development: Developing gross motor and fine motor skills.

Language Development: As a listener and speaker, expressing self using words and expanded sentences, asking and answering questions, participating as an equal partner in conversation; as a reader and writer, demonstrating understanding of print concepts, understanding the purpose of writing and knowledge of the alphabet, beginning to write letters and words.
